If we want to live in a democracy, we need to prioritize listening, and value it as much as speaking. If we want to change others, we also need to at least be open to the possibility of being changed by our interactions with them. Perhaps this is also a key element that separates ethical persuasive communication from manipulative propaganda - that we should open ourselves to being persuaded, as well as seeking to persuade.
